Hooters "the 19th hole"
The stereotype: a Texas businessman taking his grisly, but rich client to get him drunk while he oggles waitresses with big boobs to close a deal - exploitation and degradation. The title of this real-life tag line from a Hooters' commercial seems to imply the worst part of this stereotype by holding out the promise of a 'score' at the end of the course.
An evolutionary view: Women with big breasts bringing food to a man ('catering to their desires') is a way of nurturing his soul. Farfetched? Not unlike a velvet Elvis or tourist postcard, the power and vitality of the original often seems to have a direct relation to just how far the cheap imitations can go. It's not that the Hooter's women aren't real (though many of their breasts are undoubtedly not), it's that the sexual activity that their dress and the restaurant's name imply is nothing more than a glint in most of the customers' eyes. But that's the point, isn't it? That ever so difficult to understand and quantify bit of spark, the infamous 'glint'. The physical aspects of sexuality are only a very small part of the overall picture. It is the impact that sexuality has on our emotions, our minds and our Souls that is the most significant - the glint factor. Measure the mood and the life force of the above Red necked Texan before and after he goes into that restaurant and on most days, you will discover what Dolly Parton and the owner of Hooters have known all along: it's not just the breasts themselves (which might as well be a couple lumps of flesh elsewhere on the body), it's how they're carried, by whom, with what kind of attitude. These breasts, in fact, are a symbol: of abundance, of nurturing, of selflessness in caring for others, of vulnerability, of comfort and, for all of these reasons combined with some of the deepest secrets of the human psyche, a symbol of sexual attractiveness.
Sure that guy may not have a chance with that waitress. She may dislike him in just about every way. But for the moment that she says, 'what can I get you sir?' and the moment he leaves his tip on the way out, they are meeting on the common ground of helping each other get what they want, of satisfying basic human needs. On an emotional level, the need is to have basic contact and interaction, to touch and be touched. On a mental level, the need is to stay balanced between masculine and feminine issues and values, ie power and efficiency balanced with beauty and vulnerability. As souls, the need is to rediscover our creative Purpose (which when fully experienced is like the Sun's nuclear core compared to a dim bulb of purely physical satisfaction). If completely blocked, the psyche will find whatever form of expression it can until further evolution.
In this sense sexuality is a rich source of psychological material which can be used for healing and awakening...
